The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

FSG, a Learning Experience for Newbie Parents

By: Cathy Genovia, ASP Program Assistant

May 22, Saturday, ASP Trustee, Gina Bermudo and ASP Executive Director plus 3 ASP Staff welcomed seven (7) mothers, five (5) fathers, a grandfather and a grandmother, plus two (2) PWAs registered for the Free Family Support Group at the ASP Office.

Each participant was given time to share their own stories. Some just had their children diagnosed recently. “We have realized that this is not only a journey for our child, but also for the whole family as well. We learned that there is hope for our child and there are lots of ways and means to make him a better individual.”

After the meeting, one couple felt relieved after pressing concerns about their CWA were answered. They also reported on learning so many things from other parents’ experiences. “Hindi lang ako umatend ng FSG, para din akong umatend ng seminar, ‘dami ‘kong natutunan’ (Not only did I attend FSG, it’s like, I also attended a seminar!)
