The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

ASP Cavite Chapters Special Mini-Olympics – Highs and Highlights

By: Jan Pena, Governor, ASP Cavite Chapters

This year’s joint ASP Cavite Chapters’ annual Special Mini-Olympic meet successfully arrested the public eye. Children with autism and other disabilities asserted both guts and mettle in the contests in arts, sports, music and dance.

Tropang ASP Cavite rounded up the four branches of SM Supermalls (SM City Bacoor, SM City Dasmariñas, SM Supercenter Molino, SM City Rosario) in Cavite and University of Perpetual Help, Bacoor, with fever-high excitement, during the just concluded 32nd National Disability and Rehabilitation Week.

At stake were three grand championship trophies from Autism Angel Hon. Mayor Jenny Barzaga of Dasmariñas City and other special trophies, medals and cash prizes for event winners and finishers!

Mayora with Wings

Mayor Jenny Barzaga or “Mayora,” as she is fondly called, started her angelic journey with ASP during 2009 Cavite Special Mini Olympics when she partnered with the Cavite Chapters as sponsor to 5 sets of trophies and games venue at The Orchad Golf and Country Club, Dasmariñas. She also sponsored ASP Cavite Chapters 1st Regional Conference on Autism in De La Salle Dasmariñas.

Though she has not made a personal appearance in any of the events, her programs for PWDs in Dasmariñas are gearing forward. She religiously observes PWD and autism celebrations by treating the PWDs with provisions and services.

Poster-Making Contest

Kick-off ceremonies at SM City Dasmariñas Events Center on Mon., July 19 flaunted the superb artistic talents of 21 children from 7 SPED schools participating in the Poster-Making Contest. Medium for the poster-making was paper collage. 100 children also received packs of snacks during the contest, courtesy of Mayora.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners received special trophies courtesy of former Trece Martires City Mayor and Autism Angel Hon. Jun Sagun. All participating teams received P500 worth of gift certificate each from SM City Dasmarinas!
