Jan 18 9AM Community Based Rehabilitation Field Visit

The members of the National Working Committee of the 15th Autism Week celebration together with ASP Trustees and ASP Chapter Leaders in Metro Manila will be given the opportunity to see for themselves the first ASP rural Autism Resource Center (ARC) in Los BaƱos, Laguna and the facilities of Carmona, Cavite for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) on January 18. The ARC is owned and managed by ASP Laguna chapter. It provides different training programs to young adults with autism and other disabilities. The center is now sustainable after the initial support of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) the United Parcel Services.


From ARC the group will proceed to the 2009 Apolinario Mabini Awardee, the municipality of Carmona, Cavite.

This award-winning municipality is headed by Mayor Dahlia Loyola, a pediatrician and advocate of persons with disabilities. The first municipality that has a data base on the number of persons with disabilities and a comprehensive program for PWD. Mayor Loyola will share with the participants of the field visit her programs and services for PWD and will tour the participants to the Special Education Center with vocational training facility and a newly constructed swimming pool.

The two community based facilities prove that with the political will, passion and genuine care, PWD even in the rural areas can enjoy an accessible, affordable and quality services.
