The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

My Quiz “A” Experience

By: PWA Oliver Tan

Oliver Tan is a 16 year old student of Mind Matters Christian Academy. He recently won first place in the Quiz “A” competition, High School Mainstreamed Category.

Quiz “A,” or Quiz Autism, is ASP’s version of Quiz Bee, with the aim of highlighting the talents and skills of persons with autism in academics. The Quiz “A” is an annual activity in line with in line with the just concluded Autism Consciousness Week Celebrations.

Autism Society Philippines held the Quiz “A” last month, sponsored by the House of Representatives. We sang the Lupang Hinirang (national anthem) and listened to the introduction of participants.

When the event started, I patiently watched the students from the Grade School Category take their quiz with confidence. Then, I took a break.

I’m into politics and current events and my core interests are surfing the net, reading, etc. With the help of my parents and my teacher Ms. Evangeline “Ebot” De Leon, I prepared myself for the competition by reviewing general information. I encouraged myself to have a positive attitude.

As the time passed, I prayed that the quiz will go through smoothly. I took the High School Category Quiz with confidence and power. When the quiz was done, I gallantly gave my paper to the judge. My hopes climbed. I was confident to win.

I eventually got first place, which made this the best day of 2011. I’m proud to be a winner of the Quiz “A”!
