The ASP Marikina Valley Chapter, headed by Chapter President Alex Cabason Jr., held their first Sibling’s Support Group Activity last May 7, 2011. The session was facilitated by Teacher My Sorongon with the assistance of Ate Cathy Genovia and Ate Hazel Navarro, who is an ASP Marikina Chapter officer and the sister of Carlo, a PWA. Ate Kakai Victorino, ASP Marikina Chapter Valley Member, served as documentator.
The first batch of Marikina’s Sibling’s Support Group Activity was participated in by the Chapter Officers’ children, aged between 8 and 19 years old. They were: Issa and Lean Cabason, Alex Borja, Joao and Gibran Kwan, Anya Santiago, Maedin Ignacio and Lia Pacunana. All the participants were actively joining in the activities prepared by T. My. It was heartwarming to hear these kids’ stories about how they much they love their brother or sister with autism.

These activities also paved way for the children to get to know each other, not just by name but so that a strong bond formed between them. Due to the Group Activity’s wonderful outcome, it will definitely be followed in the near future with a second batch of siblings from ASP Marikina Valley Chapter.

After the activity, all the parents and other members of ASP Marikina Valley Chapter came together to celebrate the success of their first Sibling’s Support Group.
The chapter would like to thank the Navarro family for providing the venue, Mr. Lauro Purcil of KAMPI-NCR for the financial assistance, and ASP National Office.
