Autism orientation reaches PCUP Visayas

Presidential Commission on Urban Poor (PCUP) organized an Autism / Neurodevelopmental Orientation for PCUP Regional / City Area Managers. This orientation was held in Elizabeth Hotel, Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Cebu City last 3-5 February 2015.

The orientation for PCUP Area Managers for Region 6, 7 and 8 included rights and privileges of Persons with Disabilities (PWD). In my capacity as the PWD sector coordinator for PCUP, I requested the Area Managers to include the concerns of Persons with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, to advocate for the creation of Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in every Local Government Units (LGUs) and to include the representation of parents in PDAO offices. The Area Managers were also requested to coordinate with Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education (DepEd) for the data, diagnosis and professional intervention and education of persons with autism and other developmental disabilities.

The orientation also attended by Hon. Hernani B. Panganiban, PCUP Chairman, Hon. Joy Jarabelo, Hon. Ric Domingo and Hon. Conrad Sillada, all PCUP Commissioners, Ms. Chloe O. MaƱosa, Chief- Visayas Operations, Region 6, 7 and 8 Area Managers and PCUP Visayas staff.

PCUP Visayas were thankful for the autism orientation. They were keen on addressing the challenges of this growing disability sector.
