The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

Seminar: From Early Intervention to Entrepreneurship for PWAs: The Journey of Two Siblings

About the Speaker:

Ms. Mae Sadicon
Ms. Mae Sadicon is a BS Speech Pathology graduate and a lecturer to her Alma Matter at the UP Manila College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP). Teacher Mae sees children with language and communication concerns for evaluation and therapy. She holds sessions at the SPEECH Clinic and also works at St. Luke’s Medical Center - Neurodevelopmental Center in Quezon City. She is also the Chair of the Technical Committee for Speech Language Pathology Education in CHED.

Topic details:

Teacher Mae presents a case study of two challenging siblings who, with the efforts of their parents especially their mother Mrs. Marivic Rimano, have progressed to becoming functional, productive, and socially accepted members of their community.

In partnership with another speech pathologist, Giselle Driza, Teacher Mae will talk about their journey with siblings, Allen and Yasmin Rimano, both on the Autism Spectrum.

Parents and professionals will be inspired by how the siblings are able to overcome their challenges and problems, how they evolved into young entrepreneurs with better life and survival skills; how they cope, handle and manage Autism and what interventions worked.

You will hear their story from the perspectives of the parents, family, and their therapists in a manner that will concretize the theories and principles that you've learned from other seminars. Since this is based on actual experiences and grounded on our Philippine reality, participants will be able to take home more practical ideas that they can apply in their own situations. And more importantly, it gives hope to families living with ASD.
