ASP National President Mona Magno-Veluz welcomed 38 participants (including 3 individuals on the spectrum) for the New Members and Volunteers Orientation at the Autism Society Philippines National Headquarters on 15 October 2016.
The diverse audience learned more about autism spectrum disorder by immersing themselves in the typical stereotypes about autism. Ms. Veluz then moves on to clarify those myths in detail. Through the anecdotes and empathy exercises, the participants are able to understand the condition more deeply. Another important aspect of the orientation is the introduction of the ASP and the work it does as the leading national autism advocacy institution in the country.

The Autism Society Philippines New Members and Volunteers Orientation happens periodically and is open to the general public. Students and researchers are also welcome to attend, so they can ask questions in the open forum, instead of sending impersonal questionnaires.
