Intervention Models for Children with Autism

This lecture will talk about 2 intervention models specific for children with autism spectrum disorder – the DIR/Floortime approach and the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). The audience will be learning about the (1) basic principles and theory; (2) process and approach; and (3) research and evidence for each of the intervention models or type of focused intervention.

Patricia Carmel L. Yap, LPT, MA or Teacher Poy as she is so fondly called is a graduate of the Ateneo De Manila University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies - Psychology and Education track. She has a Masters degree in Developmental Psychology also from the Ateneo and is a Licensed Professional Teacher. She has a certificate to teach Special Education and is a Basic Floortime Provider. Teacher Poy has been working with children since 2009 and began her work with special children and their families in 2013. She is presently a play facilitator, parent coach and head of the Transdisciplinary Early Intervention Program at MedMom Institute for Human Development.

The ASP Education and Empowerment Program serves as a platform to educate Filipino parents and professionals on the various interventions, modalities and theories surrounding Autism Spectrum Disorder.
