The National Autism Consciousness Week 2020

The 24th NACW Digital Poster
Autism is a lifelong developmental exceptionality, which may challenge an individual’s ability to communicate, socialize and adapt to the world around him. One in 100 Filipinos are on the autism spectrum, translating to approximately 1.2 million of our countrymen living with autism today.

The Autism Society Philippines is one with the nation in celebrating the Philippine National Autism Consciousness Week to be held from 20 to 26 January 2020. This annual observance was made possible by President Fidel Ramos' Proclamation 711 of 1996 – in inspiring acceptance, accommodation and appreciation of persons on the autism spectrum in society. The activities of the week promote action by the public and private sectors towards enabling persons on the autism spectrum to live with dignity, enjoy equal rights and access, function independently and contribute productively. We would like society to strive beyond “awareness” and to inspire genuine inclusion -- through acceptance, accommodation and appreciation!

We hope to inspire awareness, acceptance, accommodation and appreciation of autism in all sectors of society. Public and private institutions are encouraged to spearhead creative activities, events and programs, towards building opportunities for our neurodiverse population. We recognize that to effect the changes we need, we must work together.

The absence of the puzzle imagery in our materials is deliberate. The Autism Society Philippines does not support the use of the puzzle icon to represent autism, as persons on the spectrum should neither be illustrated as "mind-boggling" nor "incomplete."

The Angels Walk for Autism 2020 Digital Poster

The Autism Society Philippines (ASP), together with SM Cares, will hold the annual Angels Walk for Autism on 26 January 2020, at the Mall of Asia Arena. Since it began in 2007, the walk continues to advocate for acceptance, accommodation and appreciation of Filipinos with autism towards an Autism-OK Philippines.

This year’s Angels Walk for Autism celebrates our nation's strong familial bonds that have pushed our advocacy from the boundaries of our nation, to the communities of the ASEAN and the world! We honor the 13,000 members of the Autism Society Philippines, across 97 chapters. "For the last 30 years, our chapters and members have built Autism-OK communities with the help of families they were born into and families they chose." said ASP National President Mona Magno-Veluz. "Our advocacy started with families and we celebrate this legacy as the public sector, the private sector and the general public become more accepting."

Save the date! Over 24,000 participants -- families, professionals, supporters from the government and private sectors, from the Philippines and overseas -- are expected to join the annual walk from the MOA Arena to the SM MOA Music Hall. The walk is held with the support of the MOA Arena, SM Mall of Asia, Association of Southeast Asian Nations, National Council of Disability Affairs, Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability and ASEAN Autism Network.
