The Autism Society Philippines (ASP) is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of persons on the autism spectrum disorder. We envision a society where Filipinos on the spectrum become the best of their potentials -- self-reliant, independent, productive, socially-accepted citizens of an Autism-OK Philippines.

ASP Statement on the Shooting of a Teen on the Spectrum

The image shows a green background with ASP logo on the upper left, white colored title of an activity at the bottom left and black colored benefits of ASP written in three paragraphs.

The Autism Society Philippines mourns the loss of Edwin Arnigo, an 18-year old man on the autism spectrum, who was shot dead by police in Valenzuela City. We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to his family, who are living the worst fear many families caring for individuals on the spectrum have.

While we struggle to rationalize the use of deadly force on a teenager, it is our hope that the LGU, NBI, and PNP can find justice for Edwin and ensure that this nightmare does not happen to another family. We call on the national leadership to take swift and decisive action on the erring policeman.

ASP commits to helping train law enforcement officers and first responders on how to understand persons on the autism spectrum, in the hopes of inspiring a culture of compassion and kindness — especially in those who have sworn to serve and protect the vulnerable.
